Dating back to 1909, Blackpool was one of the first aviation sites in the UK. It is situated on the Fylde Coast not far from the Lake District. The airport serves offshore helicopters, flights between Blackpool, The Isle of Mann and Belfast, The North West Air Ambulance, handling agents as well as a variety of flying schools. Our role has been to increase the capacity of the existing airport and clarify landside and airside flow and holding areas. We have also advised in the placement of new general aviation facilities including the helicopter terminal and a new hangar for aircraft. As with many airports, there has been an interest in a masterplan that creates a synergy between this transport hub and the city’s airport business park. This is something we are currently looking at with Blackpool Airport.
