As a response to Wimbledon Council’s vision for a more centralised town, we drew up a proposal that focuses on the provision of public realm facilities in the form of an internal courtyard square at the heart of our scheme. This is very much like a central square in a traditional urban composition.
We wanted the square to offer a green, dynamic, interactive space that is inclusive and that brings the local community together in a way that also enlivens the town plan’s relationship vis a vis the adjacent New Wimbledon Theatre. Our proposal for Wimbledon also high-lights the benefits of mixed-use buildings in an effort to reinvigorate the centre at different times of day by catering for the varying needs of office workers, shoppers and local residents.
