Located between Milan and Bologna, Parma International Airport (also known as the Giuseppe Verdi Airport) serves the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It opened in 1991 and has become an economic alternative for low-cost airlines. We were asked to address some of the immediate needs that the airport had in order to modernise its facilities in a way that addresses current industry expectations. In addition to an overall up-grading of the airport building both air and landside, we looked at ways to make the most of the retail opportunities at Parma.  We sought to do this so that shopping related commercial activities are in keeping with the feel of a building that is essentially about transport architecture. Parma International Airport has also asked us to seek other ways in which it can expand itself and, in particular, for us to create a strategic plan for fixed base operator opportunities such as aircraft maintenance, a flight school and hangarage.
